1814 ONE-ROOM SCHOOLHOUSE AND HYDE LOG CABIN The historic one-room :”Block Schoolhouse” (or Corners Schoolhouse #4) and the Hyde Log Cabin on Route 2 adjacent to the Grand Isle Elementary School are open to visitors every day except Tuesday and Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Memorial Day until Columbus Day. Admission is $2.00 for adults, under 14 free. Docent Charlene Southwick is in attendance to welcome visitors. The Schoolhouse was built in 1824 of “blocked” cedar logs, and in use until 1952. In the Fall of 2003, it was moved to its present site by the Grand Isle Historical Society. The Hyde Log Cabin, circa 1784, is the oldest in New England, with furniture, clothing and artifacts attractively arranged as a home setting. There are two glass display cases to better view small items and books. This is a great place to bring your out-of-town guests to enjoy this special treasure of the Islands.
We are open from Memorial Day to Columbus Day each year EVENTS For more information contact: Jan DeSarno 372-4058
